Go-Ahead Recommended For Flats On Long-Standing Derelict Site In Market Harborough

A plan to transform a long-standing derelict site in Market Harborough into 79 new flats is being recommended for the go-ahead.

The development at the corner of St Mary’s Road and Kettering Road would see three apartment blocks built of four and five-storeys, to house the one and two-bedroom flats.

The historic former flour mill on the site would also be converted into six flats.

Northamptonshire-based Hazelton Homes is behind the plan for the area on the former Harborough Rubber site adjacent to the River Welland, which forms part of the ‘Welland Quarter.’

It replaces a previous approved housing scheme which was never progressed.

Planning officers at Harborough District Council are urging councillors to approve the plan, which also includes underground parking, when they consider it next week.

A report to the committee says: “The proposal will bring new residents to the town and provide opportunities for some smaller housing for local people who otherwise may have to move away.

“The site is within walking distance of the town centre and the future occupiers would have opportunity to contribute to the towns health, social and cultural wellbeing.”
