Go-Ahead For War Memorial Restoration

The go-ahead has been given to renew the main inscription on the War Memorial in Market Harborough town centre.

The wording has been left virtually illegible because of weathering since the monument was erected on The Square over a hundred years ago, to pay tribute to people from the town who lost their lives during WW1.

Harborough District Council will also give the structure a major clean while carrying out the restoration work, which is planned to be completed before this year’s Remembrance period in November.

Planning permission was needed before the work could be carried out, as the structure is Grade 2 protected monument.

Cllr Buddy Anderson raised the issue and requested work was carried out, after being approached by residents at last year’s Remembrance Sunday service:
