Over 70 youngsters have celebrated Girls Football Week in Market Harborough.
They braved wintry conditions to train and play games at Ridgeway Primary Academy yesterday, which also recognised International Women’s Day.

It was the largest number of girls to play together in the school’s recent history.
Head of School, Dave Turner, said, “We wanted to mark International Women’s Day through an initiative that would have a long-lasting and healthy legacy.
“The idea of an all-female football session provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate women in sport, offer our girls the opportunity to try football if they haven’t already and to break down any stereotypes that might still exist.
“It was fantastic to see so many girls, many of whom hadn’t played before, put themselves forwards to join in.”
Ridgeway has a great tradition of producing sporting greats, with England and Lions Rugby star, Martin Johnson and local footballing legend, Amy Burrows part of the school’s alumni.
