GCSE Results day

Written by on 20th August 2020

GCSE students in the Harborough District are receiving their exam
results today (Thursday 20th August) after an uncertain period for
pupils before it announced that examination grades would be awarded as
estimated by teachers rather than by a formula based on a school’s prior
performance.

Principal of Robert Smyth Academy, Dan Cleary, says he’s proud of the
way their pupils have coped with all the recent uncertainties.

He also thinks that A-Level students across the country can take a lot
of credit for the government U-turn on Monday. It’s been revealed the
GCSE pass rate in England has seen an historic rise – from 70% to 79%.

“The GCSE results today have been directly influenced by the thousands
of passionate, eloquent, clever, hard working kids who went out to bat
last week and put their case forward in really strong terms – forcing
their voices to be heard” says Dan.

Welland Park Academy Principal, Julie McBrearty, says: “We are once
again delighted with an excellent set of GCSE results at Welland Park
Academy. The students deserve every praise for all of their hard work.
The staff invested many hours to ensure that the results were fair and
robust.

“Some notable achievements in results belonged to:
Liv Edwins, Eve Townsley, Kesia Floyd, Joe Parsons and Thomas Parry

“Some notable progress in performance belonged to:
Emily Docherty, Liam Stanway, Matthew Reeves, Elise Crawford and Ava
Paul”

Julie adds: “Our heartfelt thanks to parents for their support through
the recent challenges of lockdown and the standardisation procedure
applied to all exams.”
