Frustration Over Roadworks on Multiple Routes Into Market Harborough

There are concerns about several major routes into Market Harborough being affected by roadworks at the same time.

Drivers are facing lengthy delays on Rockingham Road, Lubenham Hill and Northampton Road, particularly during peak times.

Highway improvement schemes are taking place at each location for several weeks.

Leicestershire County Council says it recognises the disruption, but says projects cannot always be scheduled separately.

County Councillor Sarah Hill, who represents Market Harborough East for the Liberal Democrats, told HFM she understands the frustration of drivers, although the various schemes will bring improvements:

Meanwhile, a stretch of Northampton Road in Market Harborough will be closed overnight for the next three weeks while resurfacing work takes place.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “There are currently a number of major works taking place simultaneously in Market Harborough.

“A combination of developer schemes and funding from government which both have time limits for delivery has made separate scheduling challenging.

“Some work has since been moved to reduce impact for residents, including planned resurfacing of the High Street and northern Northampton Road.

“While the impact on residents is fully recognised, this is a real positive investment being made in the town, which residents will see the long-term benefits from in the future. We will continually work with contractors to mitigate the impacts as much as possible and thank residents and the travelling public for their patience.”
