Fraudsters Steal Thousands From Pensioners

Written by on 11th December 2019

Fraudsters posing as Police officers have stolen thousands of pounds from two local pensioners.

They conned an elderly man in Market Harborough and a woman in Great Easton into handing over large sums of cash, after phoning them saying they were investigating a major fraud at their banks.

Men who said they were officers then arrived at their homes to collect the money.

It comes just days after Police issued a warning about the so-called ‘courier scam,’ which has been taking place in various parts of the UK, including Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Sergeant Pete Jelbert from Harborough Police told Hfm the thefts have hit the victims hard:

Police say they will never ask people to withdraw money or for any of their banking details – more advice HERE
