Football-Mad Fleckney Youngster Meets Idols From Valencia CF

Written by on 8th July 2023

A football-mad youngster from Fleckney has fulfilled his dream of meeting players from top Spanish side Valencia CF.

Lucas Bedford was invited to the Mestalla Stadium after the club found out about the seven-year-old’s tireless fight to overcome a rare eye disease.

The youngster has been an avid Valencia fan since going on a stadium tour during a family holiday four years ago and watches every game on TV.

The day was a roller-coaster of emotions for Lucas, who was also able to meet some of his idols, including his new favourite player, Javi Guerra.

He told HFM what the experience was like:

The visit was shared far and wide, with Valencia and some of the players sharing pictures on their own social media platforms.

Lucas, a pupil at Fleckney Primary School, who plays for Kibworth Town Under-7s, has an eye condition called Coloboma, which affects the iris and causes the pupil to have an abnormal shape.

His Mum Alison has thanked the football club for what they did and told HFM it was kept as a surprise for Lucas:

Lucas’s football team in Kibworth have also thrown their support behind national eye charity MACS, which supports children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes, by emblazoning its logo on team shirts.
