Fly-tipping Fines Set To Rise To £1,000 Across Harborough

Harborough District Council is set to increase the maximum fine for fly-tipping from £400 to £1,000 as part wider measures to deal with the issue.
Extra resources are also planned to speed-up investigations and remove illegally dumped waste more quickly, while working more closely with the police and Environment Agency.
The move follows increasing concerns about fly-tipping across the district, with opposition councillors calling for ‘real enforcement, prosecutions, and deterrence.’

The on-the-spot fine for fly-tipping can be increased to £1,000 following changes in government regulations that raised the legal limit.
A council spokesperson said: “We fully understand how frustrating fly-tipping is for local communities.
“It is a blight on our beautiful countryside and in our rural villages.
“We believe a multi-agency approach including the police, Environment Agency and local councils is the best way to tackle the problem, and that is what we are doing.”
