Fly-Tippers Caught Red-Handed

Written by on 5th September 2025

Three men were caught red-handed fly-tipping thanks to a quick-thinking Harborough farmer who blocked their escape with hay bales.

Police were called to a field near Tilton on the Hill just after 11pm yesterday, after the group arrived in a van and started dumping plasterboard.

The farmer, who spotted their bright yellow vehicle after tending to his herd of cows, used a telehandler to place the bales at the exit of the field, to prevent their escape.

The van was seized by officers

Officers were soon on-scene and detained the men, before seizing the van and dealing with the driver, who only had a provisional licence and no insurance.

Enquiries into the illegal fly-tipping are on-going, with Police liaising with Harborough District Council’s Enivro-crime team.
