Flood Alert Issued For Rivers Welland & Jordan

Written by on 8th February 2024

A Flood Alert has been issued for the River Welland and River Jordan following today’s heavy rain.

The Environment Agency says flooding is likely in low-lying areas and on roads close to the rivers.

The alert covers the River Welland through Market Harborough and the River Jordan from Braybrooke, through Little Bowden to Market Harborough.

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the Welland Valley area.

“This means that the River Welland is now rising, which will lead to flooding of low-lying land and roads close to the river from the evening of Thursday 8th February 2024 onwards.

“We expect the river to remain high throughout the next few days and flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river.

“Our forecasts indicate that flooding inside properties isn’t likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
