Fleckney – Wigston Road Finally Set To Re-Open

Written by on 28th May 2024

The road linking Fleckney with Wigston is finally set to re-open this week after being shut for over seven months.

Work to replace a bridge over the railway on Newton Lane near Wistow should have been completed at the start of March, but was delayed when it was halted over concerns about the highway design.

Network Rail has told HFM the road will re-open ‘towards the end of the week.’

The re-opening can’t come soon enough for drivers who have faced lengthy diversion routes and traders at the near-by Wistow Rural Centre, who have complained the closure has affected trade.

Network Rail agreed to look at compensating businesses following a meeting organised by Harborough MP Neil O’Brien.

Wistow Road into Newton Harcourt is also expected to re-open to traffic in the coming days.
