Leicestershire Police is holding the two-week firearms surrender in a bid to get guns off the streets.

Guns handed over following a previous surrender

The force says many guns are held in innocence and ignorance of their legality and are often overlooked and forgotten in people’s homes, leaving them liable for prosecution.

Similar initiatives have seen weapons handed down through family or found in lofts and sheds surrendered.

Ammunition, tasers and CS spray can also be handed over.

Sergeant Peter Jelbert from Market Harborough Police Station spoke to Hfm:

Guns and other items can be left at the Police Station on weekdays between 10am and 4pm.
