Fire in Rushton

Firefighters are still damping down at the scene of a blaze in Rushton – after the fire at a waste transfer station in Oakley Road. Crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out at 10.28pm on Tuesday night (23rd July) to tackle the blaze – which involves a large quantity of recycling waste.
Due to a change in wind direction, residents in nearby Desborough reported a strong plastic burning smell overnight – and those nearest the fire are continuing to be advised to keep doors and windows shut against the smoke.
Once the firefighting operation is concluded, officers say an investigation will be carried out into how it started.
