Fears Removal Of DVLA Services Will Threaten Harborough’s Post Offices

Written by on 2nd August 2023

There are fears removing DVLA services from Post Offices will threaten the future of branches across Harborough.

The government agency is set to end its contract in March next year, meaning people will no longer be able to tax vehicles or renew driving licences in-person.

Postmasters say it will reduce the number of people going into their Offices, which will in-turn harm their businesses.

They also say it will particularly impact elderly and vulnerable customers, who are unable to use DVLA’s on-line services.

Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, is one of those concerned and calling for the DVLA to re-think the decision:

A Post Office spokesperson told HFM: “We know that the trading environment is incredibly tough for many Postmasters.

!We are committed to finding ways to support Postmasters so they can continue to provide important services for local communities through the wide range of services that we offer and continue to expand.”

The DVLA has been approached for comment.
