Fears For Pedestrian Safety At Busy Junction

There are growing concerns that a pedestrian could be seriously injured if action is not taken to improve the sequence of traffic lights in Market Harborough town centre.

Vehicles are sometimes still turning right into St Mary’s Road when the green man is showing, and several near misses have been reported recently.

The crossing is busy with pedestrians as it connects with St Mary’s Place and Leicestershire County Council has pledged to look into the matter.

The timing of the signals at the junction with The Square, combined with the lack of a filter signal for drivers, is exacerbating the issue.

Councillor Sarah Hill said she was concerned about the safety of pedestrians and stressed the importance of addressing the issue promptly:
