Extra Police Drafted In For Tonight’s England Game

Leicestershire police have cancelled annual leave and rest days for tonight’s World Cup semi-final with Croatia.

The force took a record number of 999 calls on Saturday, sparked in the main by celebrations following England’s quarter final win over Sweden, which resulted in some disorder in towns and the city.

Five people were arrested in post-match celebrations, including one in Hinckley for allegedly letting off a flare, and two officers received minor injuries in connection with the arrests.

Police are urging people going out to pubs to watch the game to enjoy it, but to consider their drinking limits and behaviour.
