End of an Era as Bruno’s Gym Closes After 50 Years

A family-run Market Harborough gym has closed its doors after serving the community for 50 years.

Bruno’s, long based on Western Avenue, has shut after the landlord confirmed the site had been sold for redevelopment.

The gym was founded by Bruno Guadagnini in the 1970s, initially operating from a back room at the Bull’s Head pub in Clipston before moving to several locations around Market Harborough.

Its permanent home opened in 2000 and Bruno ran the gym with his son Mark, who continued to manage the business following Bruno’s death in 2022, aged 75.

Mark paid tribute to Bruno’s members and staff, saying the gym had been more than just a place to train – a community built on growth, relationships, and shared achievements – and he closed with gratitude rather than regret.

He told HFM the closure marks the end of an era:
