Driving Success In HGV Support Scheme

A new initiative to recruit more lorry drivers across Harborough has got off to a good start.
Three people have already benefited from grants totalling nearly £5,000 to support them with licence applications and driver training.
The District Council has teamed up with Job Centre Plus for the scheme, aimed at helping people on low incomes secure jobs within the logistics sector and with the nationwide shortage of truckers.
Cllr Phil King, Leader of the Council, said: “This is a great start, and we hope to continue to attract local people to apply for this scheme to support a key sector at the heart of our district, as well as up-skilling our community to grow the local economy.”
