Door-To-Door Testing Considered After Rapid Rise In Coronavirus Cases

Written by on 22nd June 2021

Targeted door-to-door covid testing is being considered after a rapid rise in cases in the Harborough District.

The weekly infection rate has nearly quadrupled, rising to 142.8 cases per 100,000 – one of the biggest increases in the country.

A large number of cases are in the Kibworth area, following a Covid outbreak amongst students at the Kibworth Mead Academy.

Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health at Leicestershire County Council, spoke to Hfm:

Door-to-door testing has taken place in other areas of Leicestershire which have seen sharp rises in cases, with residents asked to take a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests if they wish, to help identify further cases in the area and help protect their community.

They have been carried out by the county council’s public health team, who have dropped the tests off at households and returned to collect them later in the day for processing.
