Two dogs have been shot dead after attacking a sheep in fields between Gartree and Lubenham.

The sheep also died during the incident off Welland Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Police say the dogs were destroyed by the owner of the sheep, although have not said what breed they were.

The incident took place in a field off Welland Avenue

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Hfm: “Shortly after 10.30am on Tuesday (19 April) a report was received that dogs were attacking sheep on land off Welland Avenue, Lubenham.

“A sheep died as a result of being attacked by the dogs. Two dogs were destroyed by the owner of the sheep.

Farmers are legally entitled to shoot dogs endangering sheep and officers say no further action was taken against the sheep owner.
