The campaign for a Kibworth Bypass has been dealt a blow after the A6
through the village was ranked second from bottom on a priority list of
14 routes in Leicestershire needing action.
It’d been hoped increasing congestion and poor air quality in Kibworth
would have seen a bypass placed high up on Leicestershire County
Council’s list.
Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, and ward councillor
for Kibworth, told HFM it’s very disappointing news.
Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, the County Council’s cabinet member for Highways
and Transport, explains: “We did identify a number of schemes which more
closely met the criteria of infrastructure projects to support the
growth of the Leicestershire economy and the delivery of more housing.
The A6 North corridor between the Leicester boundary and Kegworth,
including A6004/ Epinal Way in Loughborough, has now been identified as
the next priority scheme.”
He adds: “Subject to Cabinet approval this week, we will carry out
feasibility work so the scheme can be put forward to Midlands Connect –
the organisation which progresses transport projects to future funding
pots. We’re very much at the start of the journey by setting out these
strategic goals.”
