‘Disappointing’ Start To Drink/Drug Drive Campaign

Written by on 12th December 2023

Just over a week after Leicestershire Police launched its Christmas drink and drug drive campaign, over 40 drivers have been arrested.

32 have failed roadside breath tests, including a driver stopped in Great Glen, while six were found under the influence of cannabis or cocaine behind the wheel, including two drivers who were stopped in Kibworth and West Langton.

14 arrests have been made at the scene of collisions and 9 drivers were found under the influence between 6am and 6pm.

Five drivers were arrested for failing to provide a specimen for analysis at the roadside.

Jonathan Clarkson from the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership, told HFM it is a disappointing start to the campaign:

38 arrests have been made by Northamptonshire Police since the force began its festive campaign – 26 drivers on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit for alcohol and 12 drivers on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs.

People charged are being named by the force.
