Derelict Factory Site in Desborough Taken Off The Market

The former Lawrence’s factory site in Desborough has been taken off the market, with no clear future yet decided for the long-derelict site.

The site has stood vacant for over 25 years following the closure of the shoe factory, which was once a major employer in the town.

It’s nearly a year since Central Co-op pulled out of a deal to buy the property from North Northamptonshire Council.

The authority says it is no longer actively marketing the site, but was unable to tell HFM whether it has been sold or provide any further information. It says its current position and options for the site will be reported to its Executive before the end of the year.

Several previous redevelopment plans have been considered over the years, but none have come to fruition.

There are also plans to demolish the former factory buildings, which are considered unsafe, with the council currently seeking pre-application planning advice.

A spokesperson for North Northamptonshire Council said: “Separately, the council continues to go through the planning process to demolish the factory on the site with officers currently seeking pre-application advice. We will be looking to submit a full planning application as soon as possible.”
