The start of a controversial redevelopment of an elderly persons housing site in Market Harborough has been delayed.

Platform Housing Group has said work at Naseby Square on the southern estate would begin this month, although a contractor to carry it out is yet be appointed.

The £6m scheme will involve some bungalows being demolished to make-way for 38 new affordable homes.

The housing association has told HFM bids for the tender will be in by early January, but has not confirmed when work on the site will start.

The go-ahead for the scheme was given last year, despite major opposition, including over 800 people signing petitions against it.

Harborough District Council sold land it owns at the site to Platform for £1.4m.
