Decision On New Prison Plan To Be Made Within Four Months

A planning inspector has made a recommendation on whether a massive new prison should be built near Market Harborough – but what it is has not been revealed.
Their report has been handed to Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, who will make a final decision within the next four months, on if the 1700- inmate Category B jail can go up on land near HMP Gartree.
Hundreds of people oppose the plan and a public inquiry was held in October, after the Ministry of Justice appealed Harborough District Council decision to refuse planning permission.
The £300m scheme was unanimously rejected by councillors because of the affect it would have on the countryside and as it was in contravention to the District Council’s Local Plan and the Lubenham Neighbourhood Plan.
