Dangers Of ‘Laughing Gas’ Emblazoned On Bin Lorries

A hard-hitting message about the dangers of ‘laughing gas’ has been emblazoned on the side of Harborough’s bin lorries.

The ‘no laughing matter’ campaign warns of the dangers of inhaling nitrous oxide, which has been linked to suffocation, nerve damage and memory loss.

Harborough District Council made it illegal to possess such phyco-active substances in public places last year, with anyone caught with it facing a fine of up to £1,000.

Cllr Simon Whelband, Cabinet lead for community safety, said: “Misusing psychoactive substances can be deadly, and leaving the associated litter, such as the silver canisters, in our public places can lead to a fixed penalty notice.

“We know this issue is a concern to residents which is why we want this message being seen in every street in our district.”
