Council Tax Freeze Proposed By District Council

Written by on 7th February 2024

Harborough District Council is no longer planning to increase the amount it charges residents in Council Tax.

The authority had proposed a rise of 2.99% in its share of bills, but after receiving additional government funding, including more income than expected from business rates, it now plans to freeze charges at last year’s level.

It would mean the annual cost for the District Council’s element of bills would remain at just over £177 for the average Band D property.

If the revised budget is approved it will be the second year charges will have been frozen, but the first under the coalition administration.

Cllr Mark Graves, Cabinet Lead for Finance told HFM they are pleased to be able to support residents with on-going cost of living issues:

People are encouraged to have their say on the council’s budget proposals at www.harborough.gov.uk/budget-consultation, until 9am on February 12th 2024.

The final budget report will be considered for approval at a Full Council meeting on February 26th.
