Council Set To Deliver Early Christmas Present

Written by on 9th February 2024

Harborough District Council is set to delivery a very early Christmas present to residents and businesses.

It is proposing to offer free parking again in Market Harborough and Lutterworth on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas and improve Christmas lights in Market Harborough.

More Christmas lights are planned for Market Harborough town centre

The initiative in town centre car parks ran last December to encourage people to ‘shop local’ and Cllr Mark Graves, cabinet lead for finance, told HFM they want to do it again:

The council’s proposed budget allocates £25,000 to cover the cost of the free parking initiative, while £5,000 will be made available for additional Christmas lights in Market Harborough in the ‘special expenses’ fund, which is used by the authority to support the town in the absence of a town council.

The has been criticism in recent years about the lack of Christmas lights in the town centre.

A final decision on the budget will be taken later this month.
