Council Rejects Plan For Mobile Phone Mast Beside Children’s Play Area

The plan to erect a 15 metre-high mobile phone mast next to a children’s play area in Market Harborough has been rejected.
Operator Three wanted to put up the structure up adjacent to the park on Roman Way, to improve 5G coverage in the area.
But Harborough District Council planners say the mast would be an eye-sore and overbearing on the open space, as well as affecting views of St Dionysius Church.

Several objections were lodged by residents about the plan, which also included installing three equipment cabinets.
In refusing the proposal the council said: “The pole mast siting and appearance will detract from the character and appearance of the street scene which is characterised by residential use and expansive open space.
“The pole mast siting and appearance will detract from the setting of grade 1 listed St Dionysius Church, particularly by virtue of its height and alignment in some views with the church spire.
“The pole mast siting and appearance will be overbearing to the immediately adjacent public open space and equipped play area to detriment of its potential use.”
