Concern At Rapid Rise In Coronavirus Cases
Written by HFM News on 22nd June 2021
Concern is being expressed at the rising number of Coronavirus cases across Harborough.
150 people have tested positive in the District in the past week – one of the biggest weekly increases in cases in England.
Latest figures show the weekly infection rate, up until June 17th, was 142.8 per 100,000 people – above the national average.
A Covid-19 outbreak amongst some students at Kibworth Mead Academy has contributed to the increase in the 10 to 19 age group, although Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health at Leicestershire County Council, told Hfm that doesn’t account for all the cases:
The five areas with the biggest week-on-week rises are:
Newcastle upon Tyne (up from 116.6 to 236.4)
County Durham (66.6 to 182.6)
Harborough (37.3 to 142.8)
Blackpool (180.7 to 284.0)
North Tyneside (123.1 to 224.1)
