Church Clock Starts Ticking & Chiming Again

The clock on St Dionysius Church in Market Harborough town centre is ticking and chiming again after a £15,000 repair project.

It had been stopped and silent for over a year, with specialists called-in to repair the ancient mechanism.

Funding from Harborough District Council, through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the Market Harborough and the Bowdens charity paid for the work.

The clock is currently obscured by scaffolding which is in place for other maintenance work at the church, but will be fully visible again soon.

Cllr Jo Asher, Cabinet lead for Culture, Leisure, Economy and Tourism at the district council, said: “The restoration of this historic timekeeper is a wonderful achievement for Market Harborough.

“The church is a key part of our town’s identity and preserving its legacy is important.

“The collaboration between the council and Market Harborough and the Bowdens Charity showcases the strength of our community in safeguarding our heritage for future generations.”
