Christmas Tree Arrives In Market Harborough Town Centre

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Market Harborough town centre!

The tree, provided by Market Harborough Building Society, has arrived on The Square and is being decorated ahead of Friday’s Christmas lights switch-on event, including with baubles made by local primary school children.

The switch-on event from 5pm, hosted by HFM, will include the area’s Rock Choir performing festive favourites, ahead of the switch-on at 6.30pm.

There will also be the chance for children to see Santa in his sleigh, with his team of helpers from the Scouts.

Several businesses including the Market Harborough Building Society, which will be serving mulled wine and mince pies, will be opening late that night so people can browse Christmas gifts and treats.

A three-day Christmas Food and Drink Fair will also be on The Square from 10am on Friday.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “Christmas is the perfect time to come together and celebrate whilst supporting our wonderful range of local independent businesses and retailers, with a range of gifts to suit all pockets. This is just one of a number of exciting free events planned across the district in the lead up to Christmas and I’m sure they’ll all be a roaring success.”

To ensure safety for everyone attending the switch on, roads past The Square will be closed from 5pm until 7pm at the junction of Northampton Road and St Mary’s Road and at the junction of the High Street and Coventry Road.
