Children’s Home Plans Rejected Over Remote Location Concerns

Plans to create a children’s residential home in Shangton have been refused due to concerns the location is too remote.

Forge Care had proposed converting a five-bedroom house into a home for children aged 6 to 18, employing 12 full-time staff.

The scheme for Hardwick Drive off the B6047 faced objections from 24 residents, alongside a petition signed by 39 people, with critics describing the location as “completely inappropriate.”

Forge Care maintained the home would be a low-impact, community-integrated service, offering a family-style environment where children would attend local schools and take part in community activities.

Councillors on Harborough District Council’s planning committee went against the advice of planning officers, refusing the application by five votes to four.

The decision cited the site’s isolation, reliance on motor vehicle access, and lack of convenient access to local retail and community services.
