Ceremony Held As Harborough Falls Silent To Mark Armistice Day

A small but poignant ceremony has taken place in Market Harborough for Armistice Day.
Representatives from services organisations and Harborough District Council took part in the ceremony on The Square.

Wreaths were placed on the gates of the Memorial Gardens and the start and end of a two-minutes silence at 11am was marked by the firing of a maroon.
People in the town centre paused to observe the tribute, which marked the moment peace was declared in 1918 to bring World War One to an end.

Tomorrow, small ceremonies will take place at the war memorial in Welland Park and at the WW1 Memorial Portico on Coventry Road.
Remembrance Sunday will be marked with a parade and gathering on The Square, where wreaths will be laid and a two minutes silence observed at 11am.
The parade, made up of services organisations and other groups, will leave the Commons car park at 9.15am and make its way to St Dionysius Church for a service.
It will make then head from Church to The Square at around 10.40am.
Roads in the town centre will be closed from 9am until 1pm:
- Coventry Road, from the junction with The Commons to the junction with The Square.
- The Square, for its entire length.
- High Street, from its junction with The Square to the junction with Church Square.
- Church Square, from its junction with High Street to the junction with Adam and Eve Street.
- Roman Way, Market Harborough from its junction with Church Square to the junction with Symington Way.
