Campaigners Say Poll Shows Clear Public Backing For Town Council

Campaigners say a strong poll result shows clear public backing for a new town council in Market Harborough.

In a vote held on Thursday, 4,243 people supported the plans, compared to 685 against.

They say the outcome demonstrates the level of support for stronger local representation, with the result now feeding into ongoing consultation being run by Harborough District Council.

Supporters say the need for a town council is increasing, with local government reorganisation likely to see Harborough area absorbed into a much larger authority.

Market Harborough is one of the few towns of its size without a parish council, meaning the district council currently provides services such as parks, play areas and cemeteries.
