Campaign To Fight ‘New Town’ Plan

A campaign group fighting plans for a ‘new town’ near Great Glen is hosting a public meeting tonight.

Around 300 people have said they will be attending, as concerns mount about the proposal for land at Stretton Hall.

6,000 new homes could be built across fields stretching towards Oadby, with 4,000 earmarked in the Harborough District and the rest in the Oadby and Wigston Borough Council area.

The site was identified for development as part of the government’s New Homes Accelerator scheme.

Worries include the loss of the countryside and existing infrastructure like roads being unable to cope with the influx of new residents.

Tonight’s meeting at Leicester Grammar School from 6.30pm comes as Harborough District Council continues to consult on its Draft Local Plan, which identifies the area for development.
