Callous Thief Steals Disabled Pensioner’s Christmas Shopping
Written by HFM News on 20th December 2019
A callous thief targeted a disabled pensioner in Market Harborough yesterday.
He stole her handbag and a bag of Christmas groceries after opening the passenger door or her car and grabbing them.
It happened outside Sainsbury’s off Springfield Street at around 2.30pm, when the 78-year-old woman, who suffers with emphysema, had just got into her car, which was parked in a disabled bay.
She was left upset and shaken by the incident, which is the latest similar theft to have happened in the past few weeks.
The pensioner and her family are thanking staff at Sainsbury’s who went to her aid and a customer who saw the aftermath and bought her a bottle of gin, to replace one of the items stolen.
After hearing about the incident on Hfm, a Market Harborough man has also donated £50 to help replace what was taken.
Police say a number of officers were deployed to the area following the incident, although the thief was not found.
They are studying CCTV footage as part of the investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
