Butchers Fined £4,000 Over Hygiene Standards

Written by on 4th May 2018

A Market Harborough butchers has been fined £4,000 for failing to meet food hygiene standards at its food and processing site.

It followed an inspection by Harborough Council at the Bates Butchers and Delicatessen base at the Langton Garden Centre in 2016, which uncovered dirty preparation and storage areas and equipment.

Major improvements have since been made.

The firm’s this week pleaded guilty to 8 food safety and hygiene offences at Leicester Magistrates, although there was no evidence of any impact on customers’ health.

Bosses, who say the facility was being refurbished at the time of the inspection, were also ordered to pay £4,500 costs.

The Bates Butchers shop on Church Square has the top 5 out of 5 hygiene rating.
