A Market Harborough building and timber merchants is to close.

Gibbs and Dandy will shut its dedicated base on Albany Road tomorrow and from next week be integrated into the town’s Jewson branch, owned by the same company.

The majority of workers are relocating while others have been offered alternative roles elsewhere.

There has been a timber merchants on the site for over 30 years, after Carson Fletcher Timber first opened there in 1992, before selling to Gibbs & Dandy in 2007.

A spokesperson for STARK Building Materials UK Ltd told HFM: “We’re responding to market conditions and what our customers need, which is why we’re now integrating Gibbs & Dandy into our Jewson operations, so that they get a great service and from one location in Market Harborough.

“That way, it’ll be easier for customers to get the advice and products they need, from lightside and heavyside building materials, to timber and tool hire – they’re all key categories that we’ll continue to provide.

“The integration of Gibbs & Dandy into Jewson means most of our impacted colleagues will also be relocating to our Jewson Market Harborough branch.

“Where this hasn’t been possible, we’ve looked to find alternative roles within the business, with some colleagues taking this opportunity to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

“We look forward to continuing to welcoming customers to Jewson in Market Harborough.”
