Bob Celebrates 100th Birthday!

A popular member of Kibworth Golf Club has celebrated his 100th Birthday.

Bob Loughran from Billesdon marked the milestone with a party at the club, where he still plays regularly.

His birthday on May 1st came just before commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Bob began his career in 1939 as an apprentice engineer with the RAF, aspiring to fly Spitfires.

However, after being diagnosed as colour blind, he was unable to pursue his dream of flying and instead served as a leading aircraftman, including two and a half years in India, where he was when victory in Europe was declared.

Bob told HFM he received a special card from the King and Queen to help celebrate his 100th birthday:

Bob was recently guest of honour at Oat Hill Mews care home in Market Harborough, to celebrate it achieving an accreditation in recognition of excellence in tailoring care for veterans.

The Care UK home received ‘Veteran Friendly’ status from the The Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF), a collaboration between Armed Forces charities Royal Star & Garter and Royal British Legion, and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), with funding support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
