Flytipping in Scraptoft

There has been a big drop in fly-tipping across Harborough following the launch of a campaign to crackdown on those responsible.

New figures show there have been 270 incidents reported since April, nearly 100 less than in the same period last year, representing a 27% drop – the biggest fall since records began.

A zero tolerance approach to the issue was declared by Harborough Council in 2016, with the launch of its ‘Tip Off’ campaign, following a big rise in reports of illegal dumping of rubbish.

In the past year that has seen three people taken to Court for flytipping, 18 fixed penalty notices issued and over 120 warnings given to residents and businesses.

Council Leader, Phil King, spoke to Hfm:

That crackdown is continuing with more covert CCTV being installed at flytipping hotspots.
