Bank Refunds Woman’s Life Savings Stolen By Fraudsters

A woman from near Market Harborough has had over £23,400 refunded by her bank, after fraudsters stole her life savings.

She fell victim to the so-called DPD parcel re-delivery scam just before Christmas, clicking a scam link in an email and providing her bank details.

Tricksters then phoned her and posed as bank staff to steal the money from one of her accounts.

The woman, aged 44, who wants to remain anonymous, had been saving it since she was 16, to use for a house deposit and spoke to Hfm at the time to warn others.

The money has been repaid in full after she argued her bank should have noticed something was amiss, as she had contacted them and closed one of her accounts, after becoming suspicious just hours after responding to the fake email.

She told Hfm how it feels to have the money back and to urge other people not to fall victim to such scams:

An investigation by Police into the fraud has been closed.

A spokesperson for Action Fraud said: “The report was assessed by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau at the City of London Police, which found there were not any leads that would result in a successful criminal investigation at this time.”
