Award-Winning Market Harborough Fish & Chip Shop Closes
Written by HFM News on 8th February 2023
A popular Market Harborough fish and chip restaurant and takeaway has closed down.
The Cod’s Scallops blame inaction by its landlord to fix leaks at its Abbey Street premises for the decision.

The eatery, which opened in 2019, employed around ten people and was named one of the UK’s 10 best fish and chip restaurants in the 2021/22 Fry Awards.
A statement released by the business says: “We are sorry to have to say, that after three years of asking the landlord to stop the ongoing leaks from rainfall at our Market Harborough restaurant, and despite repeated assurances that it would be resolved, we have reluctantly decided that we simply cannot continue to operate a restaurant and takeaway in a building that isn’t watertight.
“We are truly sorry to all our loyal Cod’s Scallops customers in Market Harborough who have championed us since 2019.
“We are currently looking for an alternative site in the area and hope to be back soon.”
Equipment and furniture was removed from the premises yesterday.
