Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday To Be Marked In Market Harborough

Armistice Day will be marked in Market Harborough tomorrow with a short ceremony on The Square.

It will be hosted by the town’s branch of the Royal British Legion from 10.30am.

Wreaths will be laid on the gates of the Memorial Gardens and a two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

Stewart Harrison, chairman of the Legion, told HFM the start and end of the silence will be signified by  a loud bang:

Wreaths will also be laid by members of the Royal British Legion in Welland Park and on the WWI Memorial Portico at Rosewood Manor care home on Coventry Road tomorrow afternoon.

The Church Square entrance to The Symington Building will also be open between 10.40 and 11.15am to enable members of the public, who have relatives or colleagues named, to view the Roll of Honour in the foyer.

On Remembrance Sunday services organisations and others will parade through the town centre before a short service is held on The Square, including a silence at 11am and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.

Temporary road closures will be in place throughout the morning.

There are three phases planned:

Phase 1: The parade will start at Commons car park at 9.15am and make its way to St Dionysius Church for the service.

Phase 2: The parade will make its way from the church at 10.40am to The Square for the two-minute silence and laying of wreaths.

Phase 3: As a mark of respect, traffic will be held from 10.57am for the two-minute silence.
