Armed Police Deployed In Desborough After Boys Seen Carrying ‘Handgun’

Armed Police were deployed after two young boys were seen carrying a handgun in Desborough.

A member of the public dialled 999 after spotting the pair in Ironwood Avenue on the Grange Estate on Saturday evening.

They were reported to have been aged between 10 and 14.

Officers carried out an extensive search of the area, and other parts of the town, including the High Street, but were unable to find them.

A Police dog handler was also sent to the scene to assist the firearms officers.

Northamptonshire Police say it is unclear if the weapon seen was a toy gun or a revolver.

A spokesperson told HFM: “A member of the public called the Force Control Room at about 8.30pm and reported they had seen two boys with a suspected firearm.

“An extensive search of the area was carried out however, there was no trace of the boys and no further calls to the Force.

“The local Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing with enquiries in an attempt to identify the two boys.”
