Anger At HSBC’s Decision To Close Market Harborough Branch

Customers of HSBC in Market Harborough have expressed anger at the announcement the bank is to close.

It was announced yesterday the High Street branch will shut in May next year – one of over 100 to be closed by the company nationwide.

HSBC says it has taken the decision because more people are using on-line banking, but these customers who spoke to HFM, say they rely on face-to-face transactions:

The announcement means Market Harborough will lose two banks in 2023 – Natwest is closing its branch in January.

Harborough District Councillor Phil Knowles has been speaking to customers and is asking HSBC to re-think the decision:

Jackie Uhi, HSBC UK’s Managing Director of UK Distribution, said: “When a branch is closing it is important that we support customers in that area, whether they are regular or infrequent branch users.

“One way we have supported selected customers is to help them transition to digital banking by providing them with a free tablet device and training them up.

“The new tablet now enables them to securely keep control of their finances remotely.”
