Analogue Landlines To Be Switched Off Across Harborough

BT will host an information event in Market Harborough tomorrow as work begins to switch landlines from analogue to digital.

The change is needed because the current 40-year-old system is becoming increasingly fragile and the company says for most people it will be as simple as plugging their home phones into an internet router, instead of a wall-mounted phone socket.

The roadshow will take place at the St Dionysius Community Hall on Coventry Road between 10am and 4pm tomorrow (Tuesday) where experts will be available to answer questions on the change and offer support.

When analogue lines are switched off all calls will be made via broadband internet lines which will not work in a power cut, leading to concerns older or vulnerable people could be isolated, particularly if they rely on care alarms which use traditional phone connections.

However, BT is reassuring people measures are being put in place to address those concerns and for people who do not have an internet connection.
