Air Purifier Covid Letter Prompts Business Scam Alert
Written by HFM News on 23rd April 2021
Businesses across Harborough are being warned about bogus letters telling them they need to buy air purifiers to comply with Covid-19 rules.
They appear official, headed with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial strategy (BEIS) logo.
The BEIS says the letter is a ‘scam’ and the claim is ‘not true’.
The government department and Harborough District Council is urging anyone who receives one to report it to Action Fraud.
A BEIS spokesman said: “We are aware of scammers sending BEIS headed letters to businesses telling them that, by law, they need to purchase air purifiers to comply with Covid 19 rules.
“This is not true. If you receive a letter, please report it to Action Fraud UK.”
