A Level results in Market Harborough

A-Level students across the HFM area were picking up their results yesterday (Thursday 18th August) – and finding out if they’ve got the grades they need to secure their preferred University place or apprenticeship.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s candidates are the first to sit exams since 2019 – with pupils having had grades assigned by their teachers for the past two years.Because of this, in England just under 36% of A-level entries gained A and A* grades this year, compared with 44.3% of entries in 2021.However, Market Harborough’s Robert Smyth Academy is reporting excellent results for its Year 13 students, with 135 individual A* and A grades awarded.Among these are Thomas, who secured four grades at ‘A*’, Sophie and Harry who both got 3 grades at ‘A*’, and Elysia who completed four A-Level courses with 3 ‘A’ grades and an ‘A*’.Principal, Dan Cleary, told us: “This day belongs to the students, and I am delighted for them. Year 13 students have worked so hard to gain these qualifications and they should be incredibly proud of the tenacity that they have shown over the last two years. I am so excited at the doors that have been opened for these young people and the opportunities that they have ahead of them.“This year, students have secured places at the following prestigious universities including Edinburgh, Durham, and Leeds. Students have also secured fantastic apprenticeship opportunities. These excellent results would not be possible without the sterling efforts of Robert Smyth staff who have continued to go above and beyond for the students, we have very special people working in our school.”Mr Cleary added: “I feel that these achievements reflect the RSA secret ingredient, which is the quality of our partnerships, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents, governors, and all members of our community for their support over the last two years. Your continued investment in our students and school has meant that we have been able to continue to provide excellent opportunities”.
