Foxton Locks To Reopen To Boats For Three Days
Written by HFM News on 20th October 2026
Foxton Locks will temporarily reopen to boats for three days later this week following a slight improvement in water levels.
Boaters will be able to use the historic lock flight from Thursday, after restrictions were introduced in July because of low water supplies. A complete closure has been in place since the start of September.
The Canal and River Trust says the temporary reopening will help boat navigation and allow water to be transferred northwards along the canal, where levels remain very low.

However, the charity has stressed that water resources remain limited, meaning there is not enough to support a longer reopening or lift restrictions across more of the Leicester Line.
Water levels will be monitored and carefully managed throughout the three-day opening.
The last boat will be admitted to the locks at 2.15pm on each of the opening days.
